Recently, I knew a Japanese poplar band Suiyobi no Kanpanera.
They was making very interesting synthesizer sound in their new album “SUPERMAN”.
I write the basic way to making this type of sound by Native Instruments Massive.
In track below that sound come from 1:15.
Same type of sounds are used on these tracks.
As basic thinking way, I want to move the nob of cutoff of filter periodically by LFO. And I wanna tweak or record that LFO.
Firstly, Make some chord in sequencer beforehand.(This example is on Logic Pro)
Let’s select the sound from preset, which is seems like to be based on. In here, you should choice the sound which change drastically when you tweak the Cutoff nob or Filter nob.
For instance, this time I chose “REEF POOL”. When I tweak the Cutoff, it makes pleasant and cool sound changing.
So, Let’s go into Synth View.
There are 2 Filters. I tried to tweaked both of Cutoff, and I felt tweaking Filter1 is more interesting than another. Then I’m going to control Filter1 by LFO. (Of course, you can select both Filters if you want. )
I search the unused LFO from 4LFOs at center right.
LFO5 is assigned to OSC1 and OSC2, then I don’t touch it.
LFO6 is also assigned to Cutoff of Filter2, so I don’t too.
The small green numbers beneath the nobs means assigned LFO.(In addition to, blue numbers are Envelop.)
Apparently, LFO7 is not assigned to anything. There’s no green7 in the screen.
Drag the cross arrow of LFO7 and drop to the empty box beneath the Filter1 Cutoff.
And drag the green7 to the above. It makes wider the green zone around Cutoff nob. This means variable range controlled by LFO.
Now already sounds are undulating. If you tweak the Rate, period of undulation will change. So this is the sound I aimed.
After that, You can select the curve and adjust every value as you like.
This fundamental idea of Massive make it possible to move every single nobs.
Although presets are already amazing, but if you know this, sound making possibility become more huge.
My new Track which uses the sound made by this way is now on sale in AudioJungle.
